Ssangyong Rodius

I had to write about the Ssangyong Rodius because of the affordable price and the fact that it seems huge. My children are growing and as much as I love them they need more space in the car away from me.

Ssangyong Rodius – Seat Configuration

I love the 2/2/3 seat configuration in the Rodius which lets you have the middle seats with a gap – making the people sat in the third row feel less like they are in the boot and more like their in a car. The third row seats are connected, meaning that you can’t just have one or two of the seats upright, it’s an all or nothing kind of third row. Multiple seat variations are available including swivel seats and sliding functions.

Ssangyong Rodius – Purchase Price

There are four models of the Ssangyong Rodius to choose from. All diesels. The cheapest ONR price is £14,995. If you want one with a little more power and more toys (including the 4WD option then you’ll have to pay £20,995). There are extra charges for a better radio, a touch screen sat-nav, metallic paint, and rear parking sensors. On the road prices include your tax, delivery and first registration charges.

Ssangyong Rodius – Towing ability

The Rodius is quoted as having plenty of muscle and with 2.5 tonnes of towing ability I tend to agree. The EX Rodius is also a 4×4.

Ssangyong Rodius – Fuel Consumption

Fuel consumptions varies from 22.1MPG to 38.2MPG depending on the type of driving and which of the four Ssangyong Rodius models you drive. The fuel tank capacity is a whopping 80 litres, which at today’s prices would cost you over £100 to fill, (£112 to be exact using £1.40 a litre).

Ssangyong Rodius – C02 Emissions

Co2 emissions start at 223 g/km and go up to 250 g/km. This is car tax bracket K and M. Tax is included in the first year of purchase and then will cost you between £260 and £445 for subsequent years

Ssangyong Rodius – Boot Space

The luggage space or boot space is quoted as being 875 litres. However the actual brochure doesn’t stipulate that this is with all seats upright. I am assuming that this is what it means. This would easily fit 7 x 50 litre suitcases.

Ssangyong Rodius – Safety

As for safety there some airbags at the front, a bit of ESP, ARP and ABS a couple of other things and privacy glass for the rear door, quarter and tailgate.

I’m not quite sure how privacy glass can be put into the “safety” category, unless it stops wood be thieves from looking into your car and seeing anything to steal.

In the Rodius, there is no mention of enhanced safety options such as side airbags, energy absorbing deformation zones, window air bags or strengthened doors. This might put some family car searchers off. But then on the other hand, getting a brand new 7 seat MPV on the large side for under £15K might not.

Ssangyong Rodius – Other important features:-

  • Five year unlimited mileage warrantee
  • Insurance group 27
  • Inclusion of Roof rails
  • 16-inch alloy wheels
  • Automatic air conditioning to front and rear

Ssangyong is a Korean manufacturer that is doing rather well in the United Kingdom. I may purchase a Ssangyong Rodius because the price and largeness. I haven’t decided yet.

I think it’s quite funny that my spell-check wants to correct Ssangyong to singsong.
