7 Seater Car Hire in the UK is widely available through all major car hire companies.  However most car hire companies only have a few 7 Seater Cars available to hire.  This can be a problem if you really need a 7 Seater for car hire lanzarote or even car hire in America.  However MPV car hire is now available on the internet.

You could choose a more economical option and opt for hiring two smaller economical cars instead of a Seven Seater.  So long as an adult is available to drive each car you’d probably save about £250 on hiring two cars than what it would cost to hire one 7 Seater.

When conducting my research into 7 Seater car hire in the UK I chose to hire for two weeks from Bristol Airport in the middle of August 2010.  The cheapest 7 Seater car hire came out at just below £800.  This isn’t too bad at £400 a week.

To look at 7 Seater Car hire in more depth I clicked on the cheaper options, i.e £794 for two weeks and you actually get a full sized people carrier with enough room for 7 people, 3 large suitcases and two small suitcases.  This option also had automatic gears and Air conditioning.  Here is the quote in more detail:-

The above quotes are inclusive of airport surcharges, breakdown assistance, collision damage and third party liability insurance.  You can also be safe in the knowledge that you can do as many miles as you want.  So if you want to drive to the South of France like I am doing in the Summer you won’t be penalized for all the extra traveling.  However bear in mind that if you choose to hire a 7 Seater car you will have quite hefty fuel charges because the larger or full size 7 Seaters for hire are quite thirsty and will probably do about 30mpg.  You may choose to hire two smaller cars for around £250 for the same time period which will save you around £250 but if your like me you’d rather all be in the same car you’ll have no option but to hire a 7 Seater car and pay that little bit extra.

My new Kia Carens 7 Seater Car

My Kia Carens is a 58 plate, Diesel 2 litre CDI 7 Seater Car which I bought in April 2010 for £10,250.  I traded in my Renault Clio for £4,500 (it was only 3 years old) and consolidated the debt with a new loan of £177 a month over 5 years.

Although all new Kia’s come with a 7 year warranty the 58 plate models only have a 5 year guarantee.  Because my car was just under a year and a half old I still had over 3 1/2 years left.  I thought this was great for a 2nd MPV!

I’ve had my Kia Carens for about a month.  Its nippier than I thought it would be and can move about town quite quickly.  The kids get in and out with no problem and reaching over them to belt them up is easier than it used to be.  My children (of which I have four) always argue about where to sit.

Needless to say it is performing quite well.  Despite the battery dying within the first day of ownership I have to say that since then nothing, (touch wood) has gone wrong.  When the battery died I was at work and had to get home for childcare.  I phoned the garage and a mechanic was with me in 20 minutes to start the car with a battery pack.  This was all covered under warranty.

However I still panicked thinking I’d bought a duff model.  The next morning the Kia Carens wouldn’t start.  I called the garage immediately.  The garage sent a mechanic and a courtesy car within 30 minutes.  The courtesy car was a Renault Clio – ironic !  However the Clio had over half a tank of fuel so I was happy.

The garage kept my Kia for 2 days whilst waiting for a battery to be delivered.  After the new battery was fitted I collected my Carens.  I had nothing to pay and didn’t even fill up the Clio with fuel.  However I think I was supposed to.

Since then there have been no problems.  It does around 40-45 mpg and keeps the family happy.  I’m glad I’ve got a long warranty!

The only problem is the Grey seat material.  Not exactly perfect for children, especially in wet Wales.  The childrens’ footprints show up clearly.  The boot space with the two rear seats can fit about 3 large shopping bags.  The rear seats can easily be flattened with one hand.
