The Mazda 5 is a surprisingly sleek and stylish 7 seater car, combining good looks and and a generous trim with great functionality and comfort. However, as a word of warning, the Mazda 5 7 seater is more of a '6 plus 1' car rather than a true 7 seater, as one of the seats is located in the middle of the second row and can be uncomfortably cramped.

A brand new Mazda 5 mpv will prove good value for money, as prices start from just £16,975 for a well fitted basic model and go as high as £21,405 for an upgraded vehicle. Second hand Mazda 5's can be picked up for as little as £4,000, while newer models can be found for around £16,000.
Mazda 5 – Service Costs
Sercvice costs can be expensive for Mazda 5s, with some customers reporting that that their first 12,500 services were almost £500. However, some Mazda garages offer services for half that amount, so it is best to check around as prices will vary nationally. Affordable MOT tests are generally offered by any good local garage.
Mazda 5 – Vehicle Emissions
The Mazda 5 7 Seater comes with either a diesel or petrol engine, the most effective of which is the 2.0d diesel engine which emits just 159g/km of CO2. The petrol engines on offer, which come as either 1.8ltr or 2.0ltr units, emit between 179g/km and 193g/km depending on the model.
Mazda 5 – Car TAX (VED)
The highly efficient 2.0d engine finds itself in Band G for emissions, meaning it will cost an affordable £155 in showroom fees and £155 in road tax. This low cost makes it one of the most efficient 7 seater cars on the market. The less economical petrol engines find themselves in the higher groupings of either Band H (£250 showroom fee, £180 road tax), Band I (£300 showroom fee, £200 road tax) or Band J (£425 showroom fee, £235 road tax) depending on the model.

Unsurprisingly, the 2.0d diesel engine provides the best fuel economy in a Mazda 5 by achieving around 45mpg combined. The two petrol options lag behind considerably, with the 1.8 version offering around 37mpg combined and the 2.0 version around 34mpg combined.

The Mazda 5 comes with a generous standard trim considering it's price, and includes ABS, a CD player, driver's, passenger's and side air bags, remote locking, folding rear seats, power steering, Isofix points and electric windows and mirrors. Amongst the upgrade options for the 7 seater car are alloy wheels, lumbar support seats, roof rails, front fog lights, traction control, leather trim, parking sensors and a Sat Nav system.

Insurance on a Mazda 5 is very affordable, with the car being placed into groups 6 to 9 depending on the model.
Mazda 5 - Conclusion
Despite it's several strong points, the Mazda 5 does occasionally suffer from space issues. Along with the cramped seventh seat, the boot space is limited while the rearmost seats are occupied. It should also be noted that Mazda don't have the best reputation for their customer service and complaint handling.
