Kia Carens
There are approximately 10 versions of the Kia Carens available to buy. The 1.6 S is not available with 7 seats. However the Kia Carens Estate 2.0 GS 5 door is available as a 7 Seated vehicle. A more punchy version of the Kia Carens is the Diesel CRDI which is available in both automatic and manual.
The third row of seats on the Carens are small but perfectly sized for children up to around 14 years of age. Adults fit fine too, but perhaps only for shorter journeys due to the limited distance between the seat and the floor. My 3 and 4 year old, together with their booster seats, fit perfectly into the third row, with plenty of legroom. The third row of seats fold flat easily; once you have mastered the method of pulling on the cord at the back of the seat. However flattening the third row of seats could easily be acheived one handed whilst holding a baby in the other.
Kia Carens - Cost
A new Kia Carens will cost you between £12,843 and £18,375. It is therefore one of the cheapest 7 Seater MPV's on the market today. Kia are the only manufacturer to offer a full 7 year warrantee which gives you that added piece of mind. This also means that if you were to purchase a 2 year old Kia Carens you would still have 5 years full warrantee left. The 7 Year warrantee has only just began. It follows the 5 year warrantee that began in 2008. I have just purchased a 58 plate Kia Carens with over 3 and a half years full warrantee still to run. Prior to 58 the plate the Kia Carens had a few manufacturing problems with the gear box. However this seems to have been resolved with the newer models and 7 year warrantees.
Kia Carens - Servicing
To service a Kia Carens will cost you approximately £200 a year depending on which dealer you go to. The 7 year warrantee does mean that you will have to go with an approved service and repair engineer. However most Kia dealers offer a Service Package which saves you money in the long run and allows you to spread the cost over 12 months.
Kia Carens - Car Emissions
The Kia Carens (petrol) 2.0 GS 7 Seat model emits 193 (g/km) of Co2. This is currently band J car tax at £215 a year. The Kia Carens 2.0 CRDi GS (diesel model) emits 159 (g/km) of Co2. This is currently band G car tax at £150 a year. This is one of the cheapest Car Tax bands for a 7 Seater Car.
Kia Carens - Miles Per Gallon (MPG)
As expected the petrol version isn't as good as the diesel. The Petrol averages just below 35 miles to the gallon whereas the diesel model averages just over 45 but up to 54 miles to the gallon. This would make the diesel Kia Carens one of the most economical 7 seater cars available today!
Kia Carens - Extras
All new models come with a single CD/RDS audio with mp3 player, manual air conditioning, loads of cupholders, a roof rack with roof rails, drivers central locking switch, immobiliser and much more.
Kia Carens - Colour
The basic colour for new models is either Red or White. To upgrade to metallic or mica paint will cost £347.00. You could choose between silver, titanium silver, moonlight blue and quartz black.
Kia Carens - Insurance Group
Most Kia Carens are insurance group 10. The 5 seat version is group 9 but that's no good if you want a 7 Seater version.
Kia Carens - Safety
The Kia Carens has a NCAP rating of 4 stars and the following key features:
- 3 point seatbelts on all seats
- Active front headrests
- Driver/Front Passenger airbags
- Front side airbags + full size curtain airbags
- Height adjustable front seatbelts + pretensioners
- Passenger airbag deactivation system
- Rear child proof door locks
- Side impact protection beams
Kia Carens - Specification
The Kia Carens has 6 gears with a top speed of 116 miles per hour. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 11 seconds. The BHP is 138 with a max torque of 225. The fuel tank can hold 55 litres.
Conclusion
The Kia Carens is a brilliant car for the family. You'll have enough seats for when you need to transport everyone. For extra storage for those much needed holidays you could buy a New HUGE 350 litre Universal Lockable Car Roof Box for only £79.80. When it's just you doing the shopping you can flatten the back seats and have plenty of room for the weeks shop. When your taking your children to and from the multitude of activities they have, you can drive in the knowledge that it isn't costing you a fortune and is in fact a very economical car to drive. All in all, the Kia Carens is a safe, both financially (because of the 7 year warrantee and economical features) and roadworthy car to purchase.
