Mercedes Benz E-Class
Offering Mercedes’ celebrated engineering and refinement as part of a reasonably priced package, the E-Class has been something of a game changer for the German automaker. This series focuses on the family estate with vehicles such as the E240, an extended wagon with a hatchback that fits in three rows of seats and has plenty of space for seven passengers.

Due to the luxury of Mercedes Benz E-class a new model can cost between £20,000 and £70,000. Second hand versions are available for around £8,000.

But this is also an over simplification of the E-Class over the years. The truth is, the E-class is just about anything you want it to be – there are sleek saloons such as the beautifully crafted W212, sports coupes including the E-350 and avant-garde wagons typified by the E-350 CDI.
The most powerful car in the range is the 6.2 E63 AMG Estate, which does a very nifty 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 155 miles per hour. Despite its large engine size, it still manages a respectable 31mpg during motorway driving. At nearly £75,000, it doesn’t come cheap, but then the 1.8 E200 CGI SE Blue Efficiency Estate comes in at just over £30,000 brand new, a sign of just how wide-ranging the E-Class is.
Mercedes Benz E-Class – Miles per Gallon
Even at less than half the price, this latter model still does 0-60 miles per hour in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 144 mph. This is not bad for an estate, and it still packs in the extra passengers. Add to this the fact that it does 50mpg on motorways and has a combined fuel efficiency of 39 mpg, and you have a very affordable Mercedes Benz that fits the whole family.
