With its more robust looking frame, new logo and revised grill, the 2012 version of the Chrysler Dodge Journey is a good looking SUV that still packs a formidable amount of power under the bonnet. And it’s now the smallest SUV produced by Dodge with the demise of the Nitro.

Dodge Journey - Engine
There’s a 2.4-litre version and in North America a V6 3.6-litre that produces 235 break horsepower. Europe gets a toned down version of the V6 with a 2.7-litre engine that still feels like it has got a lot of power. That’s the great thing about this vehicle: although it is a small SUV it still feels like a substantial vehicle.

Dodge Journey - Interior
Inside the Chrysler Dodge Journey seems like there is an endless supply of places to stow things away, while the third row of seats offers a decent amount of space. And because the front passenger seat can be folded down along with the second and third rows there is a huge amount of storage. Then there’s a hefty roof rack on top that can take 68kg so carrying things along for the ride shouldn’t be a problem.
Overall the interior is a solid improvement on earlier versions of the Chrysler Dodge Journey – it looks nicer, there are more toys and the use of space has been bettered. In Europe it looks as if Chrysler Dodge has decided to offer the Fiat Freemont instead. We’ll have to wait and see, but if this vehicle does make it to the UK it will certainly be one worth having.

That’s a 2.4-litre petrol engine that generates 172 horsepower with a lot of the excess trim removed to further bring down the cost, making this model an absolute bargain. And the standard features are excellent; there’s keyless entry, all-speed traction control and trailer-sway control. |
The mobile phone system is pretty smart too. Called the U-connect voice-control system, all the driver needs to do is push the phone button and tell the system the name of the person they wish to call.
On the downside, this is a truly American MPV with fuel efficiency to match. The four-cylinder model does 19 miles per gallon in the city. It may not be that economical to run, but with a new budget version that still packs in plenty of features, at least it’s good value.
